Raising a Baller — raisingaballerbook.com

This privacy policy applies only to this website (raisingaballerbook.com). If you follow a link to another site, such as our Substack newsletter, that site’s own privacy policy applies to your activity there, not this one.

Who we are

Raising a Baller (raisingaballerbook.com) is operated by Ashley Schultz. You can learn more on the About page. Our website address is: https://raisingaballerbook.com.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Readiness & Performance Tools

This site offers optional tools that let a parent or guardian manually enter an athlete’s recovery, sleep, hydration, nutrition, and performance information to generate a readiness prediction. These tools are separate from the comments and account systems described elsewhere in this policy, and handle data differently:

Predictor tool (no data storage): This tool does not collect or store any information. It does not ask for the athlete’s name or any identifying details. Everything entered exists only temporarily in your browser while the page is open and is permanently erased the moment you close or refresh the page. Nothing is transmitted to us or to any third party, and no cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts are used on this tool.

Athlete Dashboard tool (local device storage only): This tool saves entries so a family can track trends over time. That data is stored only in your own browser, on your own device — it is never transmitted to us, to any server, or to any third party. We cannot see, access, or export this data, because it never leaves your device. Entries are automatically deleted after 14 days, and a “Reset all data” option lets you erase everything immediately at any time. We recommend using a nickname or jersey number rather than a full legal name when setting up an athlete profile in this tool.

Neither tool uses advertising or third-party tracking, and neither shares information with any outside service.

Newsletter Signup

This site offers a “Join today!” newsletter signup, which is provided through Substack. If you sign up, the email address you provide is collected and stored by Substack, not by us directly, so that they can deliver the newsletter to you. Substack’s privacy policy governs how that information is handled and is available on Substack’s website. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in any newsletter email.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. ,videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics collects information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time spent on the site, using cookies. This information is processed by Google in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Google Analytics is not used on the Readiness & Performance Tools pages described above.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

If you sign up for our newsletter, your email address is shared with Substack, which sends the newsletter on our behalf. If you use the Readiness & Performance Tools, no data is shared with us or with any third party, as described above.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Data entered into the Predictor tool is never retained, by design. Data entered into the Athlete Dashboard tool is retained only on the user’s own device, for a maximum of 14 days, and can be deleted immediately at any time by the user.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Because we do not receive or store any data entered into the Predictor tool, and do not receive data entered into the Athlete Dashboard tool (which stays on your own device), there is no such data on our end to export or erase for either tool.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
